Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) roll up a measure of an organization’s operational status into a single value that can be tracked over time.  That value is usually associated with a target or goal for the value so the current value can be quantified against the goal.  KPIs for fundraising can be monetary (i.e. “Total Revenue for a Designation”) or non-monetary (i.e. “Total Donor Count for a Designation”).  KPIs can be developed for any information that is tracked in the system through a customization that involves authoring a database query to retrieve the desired information, then exposing the results of this query through the KPI interface.
